On this page you will find the creation of the various scenes.
“Our street”
Sally, Ricardo, Carly and Dan live in a beautiful tree lined street with colorful buildings. I created street scenes for every season.
Painted wood for street and sidewalks.Plants for trees and foliage.Sardine cans as building blocks to create apartment buildings.White sand for snow on street and trees, cotton balls on cars.
SCC skyline
The skyline of SCC is beautiful any time of day… or night. It is made of, well, sardine cans.
White background for daytime images.Dark background for nighttime. Saranwrap imitates the river. And then some photoshopping.
Main characters
How the characters come to life.
Head and shoulders are always the same for each character.Limbs and torsos come from multiple “donors”.This involves a lot of cutting, chopping, sawing and sanding. And so the same character is generated in multiple poses. After a coat of primer it’s easier to see what needs to be adjusted. The final coat of paint.
Wall art
Carly and Dan have a large collection of art in their apartment. (see S01E04)
A large size watercolor that I painted a few years ago.I printed a small version of the painting. And added a gold colored frame.
Dining room set
Super comfy chairs in Carly and Dan’s dining area, for those long dinner conversations. (see S01E04)
Chairs with tiny nails for legs and foam squares for the cushions.Matching chairs would be pretty boring.Pins from an old broken hairbrush make perfect table legs.
Radiators
The apartments have vintage radiatiors. (see S01E01 and S01E13)
Gardening wire wrapped around a piece of cardboard.Black paint for Sally and Ricardo.Gold leaf paste for Carly and Dan.
Park bench
This bench is a favorite hang out spot for the characters. (see S01E05)
I cut up an old credit card.Shaping the armrests/legs was time consuming. Some glue. Some paint.
Decorative pillows
You can never have too many pillows! (see S01E06)
Egg carton squares as base for pillows.Magazine cutouts make great ‘fabric’.Putting the covers on the pillows was quite the struggle.
Hand Trolley
Need to move large piece of furniture? This trolley will do it! (see S01E09)
A large paperclip and some strips of sardine can.Nails and small disks for wheels. Some glue and paint.
Bed and Breakfast chairs
A B&B needs stylish, comfy chairs. (see S01E12)
First step: perforating a bank card.Shaping the structure and adding legs.Upholstering with pieces of egg carton and paint.
Antique clock
One of Ricardo’s restoration projects. (see S01E11 and S01E15)
A small watch from my grandmother.Carefully shaping a piece of wood, so it just fits the clock face. The trim is made of thick paper. I used copper wire and beads for the pendulum and weights. There it is, a grandfather clock made from my grandmother’s watch.
